Dessert tables have been a popular trend for years in the event planning world but you don’t need to be an expert planner to create your own beautiful display! Here are some simple tips to make your dessert stand out and create a wow factor at any baby shower event highlighting a recent event at Little Owl The Venue in NYC!
1. Cohesive Design and Color Palette
Be intentional with your dessert choices! Of course having delicious tasting treats is the idea but it’s also important to think about color, shape, theme etc. A good display should reflect the overall event aesthetic. The cookies, cake and macaroons that The Vintage Cake created for this event matched the feminine, modern elegance of the decor and gilded pink color scheme. Blush pink macaroons with gold foil, hexagon shaped sugar cookies decorated with edible gold paint and ‘oh baby’ piped icing, and an ombre pink cake with gold detailing pulled the theme together beautifully.
2. Dynamic Display
Achieve a visually pleasing dessert table by using platters, trays and stands of varying shapes, sizes and/or colors. Not everything needs to be perfectly uniform. In fact, the mix and match look creates a more dynamic design! Here we used a combination of smooth white milk glass and etched tinted pink glass stands to display the cake, cookies and macaroons. For this intimate event, we created the illusion of a larger display by filling the space purposefully using several different small stands with just a few cookies and macaroons each. You don’t need to go overboard on ordering a ton of desserts to achieve a complete look! Gold geometric accents and a couple small flower arrangements were also used to fill in any white space without overshadowing the dessert.
3. Bold Backdrop
If the dessert table is against a blank wall, decorate the blank space to create a beautiful backdrop! A decorated wall serves as a focal point that not only highlights the display but serves as a great photo backdrop as well! To tie in the feminine floral theme, we reached out to our friends at Table Setting Is My Life to create these stunning over-sized paper flowers. These were strategically hung around rose gold ‘oh baby’ balloons above the table. We even had enough flowers to decorate the wall opposite the dessert table which really pulled everything together!
